Wayne Cullop of Tucson Appointed to CAzBike Advisory Board

The Coalition of Arizona Bicyclists is pleased to announce that Wayne Cullop of Tucson has joined the CAzB as an Advisory Board member effective March 19, 2013.

Wayne has been very active cyclist in the Tucson area for 18 years. He has served on Tucson’s GABA Board for more than 15 years holding such positions as web master and advocacy coordinator. He is currently GABA President and had served in that position in the past. Wayne was selected to serve as the bike and pedestrian representative on the Grant Road Task Force, a major road improvement in Tucson. He is currently representing Pima County on the the Tucson/Pima County Bicycle Advisor Board, and is an active LCI instructor. Chandler Family Bike Ride

The annual Chandler Family Bike Ride is back!  The 7.4-mile ride is free, but pre-registration is recommended.  The first 100 people to pre-register will receive a free t-shirt.  The ride starts and ends at the Chandler Park and Ride (2100 S. Hamilton St.)

City of Phoenix Bike Summits

This year, the City of Phoenix will be holding a bike summit in each of the eight city council districts. Bike summits will be localized to districts and villages to better serve local bike communities.

  • Learn what the city is doing to improve its bikeability.
  • Join a forum of fellow cyclists to express needs in you neighborhoods or on your commutes.
  • Meet fellow cyclists and city employees who share the common goal of making Phoenix an excellent bike-able destination.

LCI Instructor class Jan 25-27: Phoenix

There will be an LCI Instructor Class held January 25-27, 2013. This is the class to take to become a certified LCI (League Cycling Instructor). Event info and registration via LAB website.

Note the TS101 is a prerequiste. For those in the Phoenix area who need the class –

FREE Ready to Ride class — Tempe, Dec 8

Do you know a beginner bicyclist age 16 and up who is fearful of riding on the road? Or could use some basic bicycle safety instruction – from bicycle fit to riding in traffic?

Ready-to-Ride is a FREE class brought to you by the Coalition of Arizona Bicyclists and the Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG).

The free classes for ages 16 and up will last for 3 hours. The classes will be overview on the basics of bicycling and riding on streets in traffic. The last 45 minutes of the class will be on your bike in the parking lot. Helmets are required.

Road Hazard Hotline

If you are out riding and spot some dangerous road hazard conditions (Cattle guards, dangerous longitudinal cracks and rail road crossing pavement buckling, etc. Generally NOT simply debris.).

Generally, you’ll need to supply the following information:

  • Type of hazard (description).
  • Detailed location.
  • Date observed.
  • Your Contact information

Also, there will be an LCI instructor course (to become LAB certified to instruct) September 7, 8 and 9. (completion of TS101 is a pre-requisite). Registration is through LAB.
