L-t-R, Bob Beane, Ed Acevedo and Dan Muchow. Ed was on a cross-country tour from Florida to California raising funds for our wounded and disabled veterans. Dan met him in Globe and I joined them at Florence Junction for a ride into Tempe. Ed is one of the funniest and most engaging people you could ever meet. We still stay in touch, and Ed still wears the PMBC jersey I gave him on many of his rides in Florida and elsewhere.

Bob Beane and fiancee Linda Torres starting her 20th bicycle ride as an adult...the 111-mile El Tour de Tucson (no, really...she insisted on riding "the whole enchilada"...and we had trained up to 82 miles by the weekend before). We rode the entire event without a single complaint from her. We ate frequently, drank Gatorade regularly, saved her legs for the climbs, and had a great ride to finish in 7:46:19.

Bicycling in my family goes back a long way…not sure how long. But, I was going through some old family documents today and found my Dad’s 1942 bicycle license (Dayton, Ohio…home of the Wright Brothers, who were bicycle shop owners before creating the first manned flight). His note to me when he sent me this years ago was that he had a red and white Elgin because they could not afford a Schwinn, which would have been nearly $50.00. Pretty cool, I think. --Bob Beane

Ed is the Coalition's Webmaster. Ed has been riding primarily for transportation, and to enjoy the health benefits, from his home in the Ahwatukee area of Phoenix on a daily basis for over 10 years. Ed also enjoys recreational MTB riding on the many trails of nearby South Mountain Park, the "largest urban park in the United States". A twenty-year computer industry veteran, Ed handles the Coalition's website and technology needs, and also writes a personal blog at azbikelaw.org, covering transportation safety, justice, engineering and other issues, as well as monitoring legal issues of particular interest to Arizona's bicyclists. Ed was named the Coalition's "Volunteer of the year" in 2009, and currently is serving on the Board of Directors.

Sheila Foraker -- Southern Arizona Representative. I love bicycles. If it has at least two wheels, I'll ride it (two wheel minimum, since I haven't figured out unicycles). Knobby, skinny, 20" - 29," fixed, single or geared, its all good. I love to race, but I'm cool with taking it easy on the bike path. My first bike was a blue and white girl's 24" Murray Missile. When my friends were getting bikes with banana seats I wanted one, too. My parents said there was nothing wrong with my bike. Sorry mom and dad-wrong answer! I bought a can of gray spray paint, a banana seat and high rise handle bars. Off with the fenders and chain guard and on with paint, seat and new bars. Soon I was crashing with the best of them and loving every minute. Many bikes have taken me many miles since that Murray Missile, but I've never forgotten the freedom it offered. As a League of American Bicyclst's Certified Instructor, I work to revive that feeling in people I teach. Whether working with kids or adults, road bikes or mountain bikes, its all the same. Getting people on bikes is always a good thing.

RS Matt -- member, advisory board. 9/12/2012: The Coalition of Arizona Bicyclists has appointed RS Matt to its advisory board. Mr Matt, a former CAzB vice president, returns after an absence due to health issues. Retired from a career as a Registered Respiratory Therapist, he is also a League Cycling Instructor, a graduate of United Bicycle Institutes's master mechanic program, and along with his wife Sharon, a dedicatee of the 2012 El Tour de Mesa. He is passionate about improving conditions for bicyclists on and off the road. Welcome back Radar!
